Cottage Country and Camp Akomak
Ken and Sharon invited us to their cottage for a week at the same time Alex went to a swim camp in a similar
part of Ontario. On the Saturday we drove up to Camp Akomak, North East of Parry Sound and dropped Alex off for her 2 week stay. We headed back to
Parry Sound to check it out before looking for a place to camp for the night before heading over to Ken & Sharon's cottage on Little Hawk Lake in the Algonquin Region. Our search brought us to Kilbear National Park, a park dedicated to the preservation of endangered bears in the area. Needless to say we had a very restless sleep that night. Finding our way to Little Hawk Lake proved to be an enjoyable drive through some scenic country which we saw parts of 7
months ago covered in snow.
At the cottage we met up with Chuck and Jesse and made plans for our portaging adventure. Portaging is where you travel by canoe until you run out of lake. Then get out of your canoe and lift it onto your head, with your camping gear and walk or portage to the next lake. The longest portage we did was only 500 metres but it was tough going on the untrained. We paddled through two other lakes arriving at Black Cat Lake, a small but beautiful part of the country. The only way to this lake was by canoe. There were no cottages. We made camp on a rocky spit of land allowing us to watch sunsets and sunrises from the campfire.
Anyway see you somethime when you get back to Aussie - Trotty
